This dish is a favourite among my family members and friends would also request for this dish when they come over for gathering.

How old were you when you started cooking? When I am 4 yrs old, I started helping out in the kitchen.

Personal wish related to cooking: I wish to continue cooking for my children and grandchildren as long as I can.

Abacus Seeds is a traditional Hakka dish. This is an essential dish at every Chinese New Year. As the name suggests, each piece is shaped like the bead on the abacus, signifying prosperity and wealth. The more you eat, the wealthier you will be!

I used to make this dish with my mother when I was young. It was during the Japanese Occupation. She passed away when I was four years old. I continued this tradition when I had my own family.

This dish is a favourite among my family members and friends would also request for this dish when they come over for gathering. Although labour-intensive, this dish shows the care and love we have for our loved ones.

I hope to continue this tradition of making Abacus Seeds from scratch for future generations.
